Paper Abstract

Tailored blanks are produced by welding together flat sheets of different thickness, strength or coating type which are subsequently pressed into the desired shape. By this method it is possible to 'tailor make' the part with different properties in different areas of the component. Some of the benefits of this technology are weight reduction, improved material utilization, consolidation of parts.
