Paper Abstract

A development history and current status evaluation is presented for high power, deep penetration laser welding modeling methods. Attention is given to a simplified model based on the concept that neither the extension of the weld ''keyhole'' nor the temperature at the keyhole''s wall are known but are constant in time, thereby resulting in an equilibrium between the energy balance at the keyhole wall and a pressure balance. The equations used are simple and point-by-point solutions of differential equations are obviated
