Paper Abstract

A general set of formulae for calculating the optical paraxial parameters of spherically surfaced GRIN lens with arbitrary index profile has been derived and some special cases are discussed, which show that the GRIN lens with unique properties has its superiority in some cases in addition to its more freedoms to correct the aberrations.
