Automatic measurement of tool dimension using stereo CCD cameras

Paper Abstract

A photogrammetric setup for measuring the working radius of drilling tools is proposed. A rotating device first holds a glass plate with a high precision cross grating. This serves for calculating the camera orientation, for deriving the spatial parameters of the rotation axis and for controlling the position of the CCD-cameras, if moved to the measuring position. Finally the drilling tool is inserted, its cutting plate is taken by the cameras and by a new algorithm the cutting radius and the inclination of the plate are determined from the edges in the images.
