Paper Abstract

Single-mode waveguide Y-junctions are important elements of integrated optical circuits. These branching devices are used to divide or to combine optical power, and applications include beam splitters, interferometers and switches. This work presents a brief review of different types of Y-junctions and methods used for analyzing these types of structures. The computation model has been created and approximate analysis performed. The dependence of the operation characteristics on the geometrical parameters is discussed and the design algorithm useful in construction of this type of structure is presented. The procedure for successful production of Y-junctions in GaAs/AlGaAs waveguides is also given.
