Paper Abstract

The effect of temperature and humidity on the tribology of the head/disk interface is studied using constant speed drag testing on unlubricated disks and disks lubricated with AM2001. Both lubricated and unlubricated disks were found to survive a larger number of revolutions before failure for intermediate levels of humidity (40% RH). At elevated temperature the lifetime of the disks was found to improve at all humidity levels. The effect of high temperatures and high humidity on the tribology of phosphazene lubricated disks is also studied.
