Paper Abstract

The basic slow (or adiabatic) equations of motion describing the interactions of the beam electrons with the microwave fields in the resonant cavity of a gyrotron are extended in two ways. (1) The inclusion of new equations which describe the drift of the centers of gyration of the beam electrons. This allows peniotron-type interactions to be studied. (2) The study of mode competition.
