Mode interaction at cyclotron harmonics in gyrotron oscillators

Paper Abstract

The nonlinear uynamics of mode interaction in a gyrotron operating at cyclotron harmonics is studied using time dependent, multimode model. The results show that the presence of parasitic mode at the fundamental can help excite the second harmonic mode well below its nominal start oscillation current. The maximum allowable coupling of the parasitic mode is determined to achieve stable single mode operation at the second harmonic using the slow voltage rise model.
