Synthesis filter bank and pupil function for perfect reconstruction of all-in-focus image from focal stack

Paper Abstract

We derive a pupil function for perfectly reconstructing all-in-focus image by filtering focal stack images. The derived function is the one which Fourier transform is expressed by exponential function. From the focal stack captured with the aperture of this function, one can perfectly reconstruct all-in-focus image using spatially invariant filters without requiring region segmentation. Simulation result using synthetic scene with eight depth layers shows the effectiveness of the derived pupil function and the synthetic filter bank.
