Paper Abstract

By using a rigorous modeling method, the SPR properties in a helical PCF has been simulated for the first time and the resonance effects have been studied by using finite element method. The results show that spiral path will increase propagation loss, but resonance peak values of the spectrum decrease. This is due to a light dispersion away from the center core, causing the energy transfer reduction between fundamental mode and SPP modes. Therefore, in the design of photonic crystal fiber structure, the liquid channel should be placed outside of the cladding rather than at the core.
