Ultra-short type-IIa DBR fiber laser for high temperature sensing

Paper Abstract

We demonstrate the high-efficiency inscription of type-IIA fiber Bragg gratings in small core erbium-doped fibers through 193nm excimer laser and phase mask. Within 8 minutes’ inscription, the reflectivity of the negative-index gratings can be over 99.9%. Benefited from the high reflectivity and the high-temperature resistance of those gratings, ultra-short cavity DBR fiber laser with an entire length of 13 mm can be obtained, which shows great survival capability at high temperature. The proposed laser provides sensing potentials in extreme temperature environments.
