Paper Abstract

The system described in this paper is an optoelectronic module for a medical diagnostic instrument used to evaluate 20 biochemical reactions at 35wavelengths using photodiode arrays in the charge storage mode of operation. This paper examines the optical and electrical multiplexing of the signals and their eventual digital conversion. The charge coupled mode of optical to electrical conversion is discussed in detail. Since the charge coupled amplifier integrates the photon to electrical conversion over time, it provides maximum signal for low level light while niithmizing component cost.
