Finding the parabolic curves in a scene using multiple light sources

Paper Abstract

In this paper we present an algorithm for locating the parabolic curves in a scene using multiple light sources. The core of the algorithm is a detailed analysis of the critical points of image intensity and a robust critical point detector. The gradient of image intensity is characterized in terms of the Weingarten map and the critical points are classified by this characterization. They are detected and evaluated by means of the rotation index of the gradient vector field. Three computer simulations on synthetic data illustrate the algorithm.
