Sensitive birefringent thermometer using waveguide ring resonator

Paper Abstract

A sensitive birefringent thermometer using a waveguide ring resonator is demonstrated in the paper. It can be used to fabricate sensitive terahertz thermal detector. In theory, the birefringent thermometer can detect ultra-small temperature change of 2×10-7°C/√Hz, beneficial from the reinforced birefringent effect by the resonances of two polarization modes in the waveguide ring resonator. In experiment, a linear temperature range from 6°C to 40°C has been detected with the resolution of 0.03°C mainly limit by the thermal instability of the temperature controller.
