Paper Abstract

To utilize the advantages of surface treatment with laser radiation for modifying the proper metallurgical structures or achieving the required processing geometries the use of optical systems for beam guiding and shaping is necessary to guarantee the required power density distribution and interaction time for an unique materials processing effect as hardening, remelting, alloying, dispersing, cladding and gla.- zing. Simple beam guiding and shaping techniques using static and moving optical components are described evaluating their reliability for an industrial environment with applications for processing of areas hardly to access and of complex workpiece geometries.
