Passive harmonic mode-locking in fiber lasers with graphene

Paper Abstract

In this work we demonstrate a harmonically mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser utilizing graphene saturable absorber. The laser could operate at various harmonics of the fundamental repetition frequency, depending on the launched pump power. The highest obtained repetition rate was 2.22 GHz, which corresponds to the 21st harmonic of the resonator mode-spacing. At this harmonic, the laser generated sub-picosecond pulses with over 40 dB of supermode noise suppression. Multilayer graphene was obtained by mechanical exfoliation and deposited onto a fiber connector tip, forming a saturable absorber.
