Paper Abstract

Electrical discharges in gases take many forms. Coronas with currents of tens of mA occur around high voltage points at pressures in the atmospheric range; glows are low pressure discharges with currents in the mA range; and arcs are produced at high pressures with currents of amps to kiloamps. Technological applications of glow discharges include lamps, gas lasers and sources for plasma etching and processing.
