Paper Abstract

We have reported a fibre optic evanescent wave (methane) gas sensor where a D-shaped optical fibre was used as a sensing element1 . Progress has been made in optimisation of the sensitivity of the D-fibre to methane at 1 .64µm2, in the development of signal processing techniques3, and in understanding and suppression of various noise sources4,5.
