Paper Abstract

Very high gain microchannel plate wafer tubes are described, incorporating a rugged construction designed to withstand the rigors of ground based and space astronomy applications. These included large format devices with areas up to 75 mm diameter, a variety of readout methods including phosphor screen, multi anode and resistive anode, and sensitivities to cover spectral regions from 110 nm (solar blind) to 800 nm. Some applications relevant to modern astronomy are described.
