Design, numerical simulation, manufacturing, and experimental verification of an adaptive sandwich reflector

Paper Abstract

An adaptive sandwich reflector of composite material has been designed and manufactured in the in-situ technique. The deformation profile of the structure is experimentally verified by speckle interferometry and mechanical measurements using strain gages. To enforce defined deformation patterns to change the overall geometry (contur), the shape of the reflector can be adapted by actuating embedded piezoceramic patches. The fabrication process of the reflector does not require additional machining for the electrical wiring. The results of numerical simulations with respect to the out-of-plane deformations are verified by different measurement techniques.
