Paper Abstract

Using an FTIR and a diode laser, the dynamics of the reorientation of ammonium salts have been studied. The systems examined range from crystalline salts to amorphous polymers. One conclusion is that the vibrational bands of hydrogen-bonded H-stretching bands are determined by the lifetimes of the excited vibrational states and that these depend on frequency and not on numerous other properties of the system.
