Paper Abstract

The need to extract spectral information from biological samples has led to the use of photoperturbation spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures, which selectively extracts only those vibrational modes that are perturbed. When the desired bands are overlapped by strong solvent absorptions, ultrathin transmission paths must be used. The desired bands must then be distinguished from atmospheric absorptions, phase errors, and instrumental non-linearities. Applications to biological problems are presented.
