Paper Abstract

An interface between a high performance liquid chromatogrpah (HPLC) and an FT-IR spectrometer was constructed that allows the collection of direct-deposition (DD) infrared spectra of components eluting from an HPLC column. The key component of the interface is a bent concentric flow nebulizer that is installed immediately above the moving window of a commercial DD GC/FT-IR interface. A convergent-divergent nozzle was used to center the inner tube with minimal disturbance of the flow characteristics of the sheath gas. The minimum identifiable quantity of typical non-volatile polar organic molecules was less than 10 ng.
