Diffraction of a limited beam by a planar waveguide with sine grating coupler

Paper Abstract

Experimental results of diffraction measurements performed on a silicon on sapphire planar waveguide with a quasi-sinusoidal grating coupler are presented in the linear regime for various Gaussian beam characteristics. Results are analyzed using simple analytical algorithms we have developed and yield the importance of spatial effects when the excitation beam and device resonance angular widths are comparable.
