Paper Abstract

An adaptive image coding scheme is introduced in this paper. The proposed method explores the relationship between wavelet transform and statistical texture analysis, decomposing an image into octal signal bands and utilizing statistical texture information as a guiding tool to control the levels of signal decomposition necessary in coding in order to achieve high compression ratio and image reconstruction with superior quality.
