Paper Abstract

A great deal of research has been carried out by biologists, pathologists, as well as biomedical physicists on the studies of the cyto-architectonics in various types of cells with symptoms of cancerous disease. Color and texture of the cell and their interrelationships are the important basis for cell analyses, and prove successful to differentiate abnormal cells from normal ones. However, to classify the abnormal cells into two categories, namely cancerous cells and non- cancerous cells but with pseudo-positive phenomenon, more information are needed in addition to those obtained only from the observations on the microscopic images of the smear, and therefore, a further step, such as biopsy, has to be taken. In this paper, color image processing technique is introduced to highlight the differences between the positive and the pseudo-positive cyto-architectonics so as to help increase the visualization and diagnostic capability of an human expert. It is hoped that it would come out to be an effective tool for the screening of the pseudo-positive non-cancerous cells from the cancerous ones even when they look alike under microscope.
