Paper Abstract

The continuing increased reliance on high speed shuttered color video cameras for instrumentation applications has resulted in a data synchronization discrepancy between the video data files and most other instrumentation system files. The color video systems based on the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) system have a 59.94 Hz time base while Inter-Range Instrumentation Group (IRIG) timing based systems are typically clocked on even fractions of 60 Hz. This paper describes the definition of a new data correlation technique compatible with both NTSC and IRIG timing sources and the development of a prototype airborne encoder to demonstrate its use.
