Paper Abstract

TV tracking techniques are important in view of their passive natuie. They are generally used to augment radar trackers wheneverthe radarreceivers arejammed by the enemy. This paperdiscusses a TV trackerscheme employed formissile guidance to Une Of Sight(LOS). The tracker utilises the contrast and edge tracking techniques to track the bright exhaust plume of tl missile. The simple edge based tracker fails to generate accurate guidance commands when tl missile plume appears big in size. An auto edge selector is therefore employed to overcome the problem. Tl camera is zoomed in continuously to maintain the plume size to trackable limit and the appropriate zoom corrections are made in real time to guidance error signals. The tracker acquires the missile as it enters the Field Of View(FOV) of the TV sensor with high degree of confidence and subsequently tlBcks it to generate guidance errors. The tracker hardware has been developed and tested.
