Paper Abstract

We have examined an experimental acousto-optical computing system based on multiplication by binary convolution. Although this technique has previously been discussed, there are few reports regarding its experimental implementation. In our studies, we find several disadvantages in the proposed system configurations and report a simple yet powerful improvement that makes this technique much more practical. The paper includes a description of earlier designs, as well as the improved design, and gives experimental results.
