Paper Abstract

For future computer and information systems such as the Space Station data management system, the communication processing delays at the network nodes will become a critical issue. Exploiting recent advances in optical processing and integrated optoelectronics promises to solve the information delay bottlenecks. This paper outlines the results of a study to develop the functional concepts for an intelligent optical node incorporating as many optical signal processing elements as feasible.
