Paper Abstract

The medical motivation for interactive manipulation of 3D data via a 2D display device is presented. Four specific topics are described: (i) interactive orientation specification, (ii) 3D83, a program currently being used in clinical practice, (iii) directed-contour-based display and manipulation, and (iv) binary-array-based display and manipulation. Timings are reported for medical exam-ples. Advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches are discussed.
