Paper Abstract

Veiling glare caused by reflection of an automobile instrument panel in the windshield may be reduced by coating the windshield with an antireflective multilayer dielectric coating. In this paper, procedures for computing the reflectance of such a coating on a glass substrate are described and used to evaluate the effects of single- and double-layer coatings on the reflectance of obliquely incident, unpolarized light from an automobile windshield. The prac-tical effects of these antireflective coatings on veiling glare are discussed.
