Paper Abstract

The diffraction pattern of a curved diamond-turned mirror is studied in terms of the surface autocorrelation function. These experimentally determined autocorrelation functions are used for calculation, and the results are analyzed to discriminate the parameters of the surfaces. Because of the limited range of information available, only gross features of the surfaces can be characterized. Our computation also suggests that the experimental diffraction pattern in the focal plane is more useful in describing the details of the surface.
