Paper Abstract

Electronic color sorting machines pose maintenance problems when used for hygroscopic agricultural particles because of the high bias voltages required by photomultipliers. Unbiased photodiodes, with appropriate optical filters, should improve such systems considerably if used in place of photomultipliers.
