Paper Abstract

This paper reviews the mathematical basis for the selection of critical photographic variables. These general relationships are evaluated using information on atmospheric contrast transmittance and turbulence over a 20 mile path recently gathered by Aero-nutronic under contract to the USAF Avionics Laboratory. The interdependence of atmospheric and photographic variables is explored. The minimum energy per solid angle required to allow a given film resolution is defined.
