Paper Abstract

An optical-digital technique for classifying rough surfaces that uses the irradiance moments extracted optically from the Hartley transform intensity of a rough sample is described. A set of discriminant features based on the lower moments is used to compute a discriminant function for the classification task. An example of application to classification of machined surfaces is also carried out.
