Paper Abstract

The ability of rotated gyros to self-correct their errors is investigated. The specific design scheme of the device for three-axes orientation measurement enables using the self-correcting properties of rotation with maximum benefit. A mathematical model of the device using laser gyros is developed, on the basis of which computer simulation results are obtained. The proposed design scheme of the device due to its low sensitivity to gyro errors, including scale factor instability, is recommended for the use in strapdown navigation/orientation systems that employ not only a small-sized laser but also fiber optic or integrated-optic gyros.
