Paper Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate 160-GHz chirp-free carrier-suppressed return-to-zero pulse generation using only a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator driven by a 40-GHz clock. The generated pulses are characterized by full width at half maximum of 3.3 ps and signal to noise ratio of 28.5 dB. The unwanted low-frequency tones are suppressed by about 21 dB. The impact of extinction ratio on the generated 160-GHz pulse is also investigated through simulations.
