Paper Abstract

An important issue in the production of integrated optics and optoelectronics devices in semiconductors is coupling to optical fiber. The refractive index and size of singlemode fiber is quite different from that of semiconductor waveguides, and therefore direct coupling of the two is associated with very high coupling losses.
