Some results in laser optics

Paper Abstract

The experience in laser optics in the Laser Department of the Institute of Atomic Physics began with the development of the first He-Ne laser in Romania in 1962 (2 years later than the world’s first). Optical polishing and optical coating technology have been developed primarily for the visible and IR ranges, with a continual effort to improve them to increase the quality of optical components and the implicit reliability of the lasers. Ever-increasing attention has had been paid to the investigation, by optical and nonoptical methods, to characterize optical coatings. The correlation of coating characteristics with the deposition technologies could enable the improvement of the technology parameters. Since all the lasers and the applications are equipped with optical components realized in our laboratory, the observations of the users have been important in the activity of improving the quality of optics.
