Paper Abstract

Liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) is a relatively new technology that can be used as the spatial light modulator in projection systems. It can offer high performance at low cost. Various optical architectures have been proposed that can be used with LCoS panels. All of these systems have their own specific advantages and disadvantages. Efficiency, color gamut, and contrast ratio are three quality parameters that are largely dependent on the optical engine that is used. An optical engine with a high performance that is relatively compact is proposed. Realistic optical simulations are used to demonstrate the performance of this system. Two different optical configurations are investigated.
